Captain Mike Gautreaux

Captain Mike Gautreaux

Captain Mike Gautreaux

Captain Mike Gautreaux was born in south Louisiana, and grew up fishing the bayous and swamps of that area. After graduating from LSU, he spent the next 25 years as fighter pilot in the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Colonel in 1996. During his time in the Marines, he was able to fish throughout the world, including Australia, Okinawa, the Philippines, Europe, Hawaii and all over the US. When he retired from the Marine Corps in 1996, he took a job running the start-up tourist operation on the island of Midway in the Pacific Ocean. A significant portion of that business was the sportfishing and sport diving operation. Mike was instrumental in making Midway sportfishing the talk of the fishing world. During the time on Midway, Mike was fortunate enough to work with numerous television sports personalities, one of whom, Captain Norm Isaacs, he teamed up with when he left Midway in 2000. Mike and Norm started the Billfishing Xtreme Release League, BXRL, in 2001. The BXRL was the show-piece big-game fishing program on ESPN for the next 6 years, and during that time Mike served as its Director. Mike received his Coast Guard Captain's license when he left Midway. While serving as the Director of the BXRL, he partnered with Regular Guy Charters as the Captain of its charter fishing boat, the Sunrise in 2003. In 2006, he bought half interest in the Regular Guy Charter operation and is now running that business.

Captain Mark Wright

Captain Mark Wright

Captain Mark Wright

Captain Mark Wright came to Florida in 1970. His family originated from the Great Lakes region of Ohio and he quickly adapted to Florida’s way of life, taking advantage of the many outdoor activities Florida has to offer. Fishing, already a favorite activity for the family, became a true passion for the future Captain Mark. Becoming an accomplished and well known fisherman in his hometown of Jensen Beach, Florida, the young teen could be found almost nightly on at least one of Martin County’s bridges pursuing the mighty snook. After an 11 year stay in Denver, Colorado Mark and his bride Kim moved back home to Florida to enjoy the great weather, fantastic fishing and family they both missed. Resettling to Brevard County in 1992, Kim continued her career within the Aerospace industry and Mark worked as a commercial fisherman. Specializing in the “splatter pole” technique of fishing for spotted seatrout, Mark fished the entire length (160+ miles) of the Indian River Lagoon. This passion to fish professionally eventually led Mark to earning his Captain’s Ticket becoming a fishing guide in 1995. With fifteen plus years of full time guiding experience behind him, Captain Mark is still thrilled by the smile of a youngster catching their first fish or the look of contentment on the face of an experienced angler who just caught the trophy he or she has pursued for a lifetime!
